Benefits of Porcelain Veneers
Porcelain or ceramic veneers in Tukwila, WA, have improved patients’ smiles for years. Their popularity is unmatched for their many benefits:
- While veneers can be made of other materials, porcelain or ceramic look far more natural than composite materials.
- Porcelain is naturally stain-resistant, so you can eat and drink whatever you like without worrying about stains from coffee, tea, sauces, etc.
- Only a minimal amount of the tooth enamel needs to be removed before placing the veneer.
- Porcelain veneers are custom-crafted to match your other teeth and complement your smile.
- Ceramic veneers strengthen teeth with weakened enamel or small cracks.
- They do not need special care. Once they are in place, you brush and floss them as you would your natural teeth.
- Porcelain veneers can last 10 to 15 years or longer.

Who May Be a Candidate for Veneers
To be a good candidate for porcelain veneers, you should have healthy teeth and gums with no tooth decay or active gum disease. You will need enough tooth enamel to allow for the removal of a thin layer while leaving enough for bonding the veneer. You will also need to be dedicated to good oral hygiene to ensure your porcelain veneers last and avoid infection around the base.
What to Expect During Porcelain Veneer Treatment
Getting ceramic veneers requires more than one visit to our office. At your initial consultation, we evaluate your health, take digital images, and discuss your aesthetic goals. If porcelain veneers are the appropriate choice, we will schedule a return visit for you. At that visit, we will prepare your teeth by removing a very thin layer (less than a millimeter) of enamel from the front and edges of your teeth. We then take impressions of your teeth, which we use to design your veneers.
We will place temporary veneers over your teeth to protect them while we design your custom veneers and have our dental lab fabricate them. Once your veneers are ready (usually 2 to 3 weeks), you return to our office, we check the fit, color, and size, making any needed adjustments. To prepare the teeth, we clean and etch them, then permanently cement the porcelain veneers in place. We use a special light to “cure” the cement for a stronger bond. Your beautiful new smile is ready!

Porcelain Veneers FAQs
What are porcelain veneers?
Porcelain veneers are ultra-thin shells bonded to the front of teeth to cover chips, cracks, discoloration, misalignment, gaps, or misshapen teeth.
How long do porcelain veneers last?
With proper oral hygiene and regular checkups, they should last at least 10 to 15 years. For some patients, they last longer.
Are porcelain veneers better than composite?
Porcelain veneers last longer, look more natural, and are more stain-resistant than composite veneers. Composite veneers, while less expensive, last only 5-7 years, tend to stain, and lack the translucency of porcelain.
